The idea of Enlightenments emerged over a few years as a way of generating income for the Adam Smith Global Foundation. During that period however it became clear that this could be achieved by emphasising our ethical and values-based enterprise credentials and exploiting the real legacy of Adam Smith to help to regenerate the Merchants Quarter of Kirkcaldy. A visit to the WhyNot community enterprise in North Berwick confirmed our view that this was a viable opportunity for us in conjunction with our partners Fife Council, Fife College and the Co-operative Group,

Enlightenments was therefore developed as a multifaceted Social Enterprise hub with four core elements namely, a Creative Enterprise space; an Employability and Enterprise base; a Cafe/Bistro and a small food hall. Each of these elements complement each other and can all be supported through advice and training from our partners.

This is an exciting and innovate project which bodes well for Kirkcaldy's social and commercial future.

Please come and enjoy it!
